Presentation
SEAT is the only company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets cars in Spain. A member of the Volkswagen Group, the multinational has its headquarters in Martorell (Barcelona), sells vehicles under the SEAT and CUPRA brands, while SEAT MÓ covers urban mobility products and solutions. SEAT exports more than 80% of its vehicles, and is present in 75 countries.
SEAT employs over 15,000 professionals and has three production centres – Barcelona, El Prat de Llobregat and Martorell, where it manufactures the SEAT Ibiza, the SEAT Arona, the CUPRA Formentor and the Leon family. Additionally, the company produces the Ateca in the Czech Republic, the SEAT Tarraco in Germany, the SEAT Alhambra in Portugal and the Mii electric, SEAT’s first 100% electric car, in Slovakia. These plants are joined by SEAT:CODE, the software development centre located in Barcelona.
SEAT will invest 5 billion euros through to 2025 in R&D projects for vehicle development, specifically to electrify the range, and in equipment and facilities. The company aims to make Martorell a zero-carbon footprint plant by 2050.
And since for SEAT mobility is a fundamental right, the company decided to create a new business unit called SEAT MÓ, to develop and launch new micromobility products & services which are 100% electric and at the same time accessible and affordable. Created last summer is based in the heart of Barcelona, in CASA SEAT and has a portfolio of two electric kickscooter, the SEAT MÓ ekickscooter 25 and 65, together with the SEAT MÓ eScooter 125 and the motosharing service in Barcelona.
Furthermore, SEAT:CODE is SEAT’s new Software Development Centre, created in 2019 to drive the company’s digital transformation and promote the shift from being a vehicle manufacturer to a software development company. SEAT:CODE created its first multimodal mobility platform, the first software product developed and marketed by SEAT to enable the fully digital operation and management of vehicle fleets. The first operator to use this new app was the SEAT MÓ motosharing service, launched in Barcelona in 2020. This Digital Centre of Excellence has a team of 150 software developers and is based in the heart of Barcelona.
Role in the project
SEAT as a car manufacturer expert will provide the proper antenna requirements in terms of cost and antenna integration on the vehicle.
From an integration point of view, SEAT will define a clear set of antenna mechanical requirements for the installation on the vehicle as well as CAD data to perform the antenna plus vehicle simulations in the most realistic condition of the installation. Also, as a part of this activity, SEAT will define several antenna locations inside the vehicle to analyse its feasibility and performance.
Regarding the costs, SEAT will define key points for antenna commercialization and the cost targets.
SEAT will define different scenarios to perform field measurements and targets of functionality as defined as user requirements.
SEAT will be, as well, the Autonomous vehicle provider, it will support the logistic for the vehicle availability and test preparation. As OEM, SEAT will participate jointly with the FICOSA in all the antenna validation process.
